Doug Scamahorn. Facilitator. Design sprints and behavior design for sustainability teams.

You have the target. Now what?

Short, fixed-scope workshops for sustainability and circularity leads who are stuck between the strategy deck and the first pilot. Two days to a week each. You leave with a roadmap the team built, a concept tested with the people who'd have to change, and a pilot plan you run yourself.

Most sustainability initiatives don't fail on strategy

They fail when nobody changes what they do on Monday. The target is set, the deck is approved, opinions abound, budget is tight, and the first pilot never quite starts, or it starts and stalls because the people who had to switch didn't.

I run workshops built for exactly that gap. Evidence instead of advice. Adoption designed in from day one. Days, not quarters. You keep ownership of everything.

How it works

  1. Step 1 · 2 days

    Strategy Signal

Anchor the workshop to the target you already have, get everyone speaking the same language, and leave with a North Star metric, a prioritized set of concepts, a 3 to 12 month roadmap with owners, and a list of the behaviors each item depends on.

  2. Step 2 · 4 days plus handover

    Sustainability Sprint

Take the riskiest concept, build a prototype of the intervention (a process, a policy, a communication, a physical mock-up), and test it with five of the people who'd actually have to change. You get the prototype, what was validated, the test notes, and a one-page summary.

  3. Step 3 · Half day

    Pilot Design Workshop

Turn the tested concept into a one-page pilot plan with a comparison group and behavioral measures, so leadership funds the right thing and you can prove it worked. Then it's yours.

Not sure where to start? A two-hour Lightning Decision Jam takes one stalled initiative and leaves you with the top three problems and an action for each. It is the cheapest way to see how I work.

When to call

  • You have a sustainability, circularity, carbon, or EPR target and a strategy document, and the first pilot still hasn't started.

  • Three or more initiatives are competing for one budget and every meeting ends in another meeting.

  • Something launched and stalled, and you suspect the reason is people, not plan.

  • Leadership wants visible progress in the next six to eighteen months and you need something you can show.

Why Doug

Twenty years designing digital products in regulated industries, then four years as an innovation facilitator inside two of the largest US banks, where my team ran 145 workshops with more than 1,000 participants in a single year and took concepts from sticky note to tested prototype before anything was built. Four patents, 42 first-time inventors helped to file, a 467 percent rise in patent disclosures in one year.

On the circular side since 2021, when I designed and ran "Design for a Circular Economy" for Indy Design Week on Earth Overshoot Day, adapting the Ellen MacArthur Circular Design Guide and Leyla Acaroglu's Circular Redesign Toolkit into a facilitated flow, and builder of a working AI tool that generates circular business model concepts.
